Walnut Harvested in Central Texas

Although the segments show a banding that looks like contrasting wood, this piece is made entirely from the same source. This central Texas walnut was harvested and milled just south of Austin, Texas. The silkiness of the lighter walnut contrasts with the darker walnut that enhances the spiral as it moves from base to tip. Varying somewhat from other pieces, the tip of this horn was left blunt. Also, the bottom segment, or wedge, is actually red-brown mesquite. Overall, this piece is 14.5″ tall and 5.5″ diameter across its base.
