Central Texas Walnut Nautilus Shell

Constructed of walnut collected and milled in central Texas, this shell exhibits the contrasting nature of heartwood (dark) and the pulpwood (lighter radial lines). The pulpwood is softer and lighter than the walnut heartwood. The alternating pulpwood and heartwood lines radiating from the central hole enhance the circular nature of the growth of the shell. Included inside the shell is a large cube of contrasting maple that can be added or removed to change the look of the piece. The walnut shell measures 7″ from the bottom of the base to the top of the shell, 9″ from the back of the shell to the tip of the lip, and 5″ across the open mouth at its widest point.
