Texas Walnut Nautilus Shell

This walnut shell, collected and milled in central Texas, has an alternating appearance of the grain from adjacent segments. It gives the look of rays radiating from the central hole. The direction and strength of the light has a strong effect on this aspect. It sits upon a rectangular base – also of walnut. The mouth has a flat surface helping to define the lines around the mouth – both inside and out. From the base, the shell is 7.75″ tall, 8.5″ from the back of the shell to the tip of the lip, and 5.25″ across the mouth at its widest points.
